The questions we get asked most, answered plainly. If yours isn't here, email enquiries@mapyourgym.co.uk and we'll answer it — and probably add it to this page.

## What does MapYourGym actually do?

It's an app for gym members. It gives you an interactive map of your gym's floor showing where every machine is, video guidance for each piece of equipment filmed in your own gym, and workouts and programmes built around the kit that gym actually has.

The short version: it's the induction you got once, available every time you train. [Why that map matters more than it sounds](/blog/why-gym-maps-make-better-workouts) goes into what it does for a session.

## Is MapYourGym free?

Yes. MapYourGym is free to download and free to use.

There's no member subscription and nothing to unlock. Gyms pay for the platform — that's the whole business model, and it's the reason the app doesn't need to charge you or sell you anything.

## Is MapYourGym still available?

Yes. MapYourGym is on both the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/mapyourgym/id6758617601) and [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapyourgymlimited.mapyourgym), and we ship updates regularly.

It's an active product, not a project we've walked away from — new gyms, new equipment videos and new features land continually.

## Does MapYourGym contain ads?

No. There are no ads in MapYourGym.

That's a deliberate decision rather than a feature we haven't got round to selling. An advert between sets is precisely the sort of interruption the app exists to remove, and because gyms pay for the platform there's no reason to put one there.

## Is MapYourGym suitable for children?

Within reason — and the honest answer is that your gym's age policy matters more than the app's.

The app is rated 9+ on the App Store. There are no ads, nothing to buy, and no open chat or social feed where a young person could be contacted by strangers. The content is exercise guidance, floor maps and training plans.

The practical limit is the gym itself. Most UK gyms admit members from 16, some from 14 when accompanied by an adult, and many restrict under-18s to particular areas or times. The app doesn't override any of that — if a gym won't let a 14-year-old on the free weights unaccompanied, MapYourGym showing them where the squat rack is doesn't change it.

On data: we follow the Information Commissioner's Age Appropriate Design Code. In the UK a child can consent to an online service from 13, so anyone younger needs a parent or guardian to consent on their behalf before creating an account. We don't use children's data for marketing and we don't profile children to suggest content beyond their own training history. The full detail is in our [privacy policy](/privacy).

Our own view: for a teenager learning to train, video guidance filmed on the exact machine in front of them is genuinely valuable — it's the thing most new lifters never get. But it supplements supervision rather than replacing it. If your child is training, the gym's own rules on junior members are the ones to follow.

## Do I need my gym to be on MapYourGym?

No, but it's much better if it is. Without a partnered gym you still get the full exercise library, the workout builder and everything you log. What you don't get is the map, the equipment videos filmed in your gym, and the workouts your gym has put together — which is most of the point.

If your gym isn't on it, tell them. Gyms tend to look at this sort of thing when members ask for it.

## What happens to my training data?

Your workout history is yours. We're the data controller, we process personal data under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and you have the usual rights over it — access, correction, deletion and the rest. Our [privacy policy](/privacy) sets out exactly what we hold and why.

## Who made MapYourGym?

MapYourGym is built by MapYourGym Limited, registered in England and Wales under company number 15513614, with its registered office in Wolverhampton.

It was founded by Sam Benton and Ben Thomas, two coaches with a combined twenty-plus years on the gym floor. The idea came from the same problem they both kept running into: an induction lasts half an hour, support stops the moment it ends, and new members are left to work out an unfamiliar room on their own. Most of them don't come back.

The whole story, in their own words, is on [our about page](/about).
