# How to find the right kit in your gym

_Using the app · 29 September 2026 · 2 min read · By The MapYourGym Team_

> Using the gym map, the exercise library and the equipment list in MapYourGym to find a machine, learn how it works, and see whether your gym has it.

Not knowing where something is, or how it works, is one of the main reasons people skip an exercise. The app has three answers to that, and they connect to each other.

## The gym map

Your gym's floor plan sits at the top of the home screen. Tap it to open it full screen, where you can pinch to zoom and rotate it to landscape for a wide floor.

The map is not a picture. Tap where a machine is and a marker appears; tap the marker and it opens that piece of equipment, with what it is, how to use it, and the exercises it unlocks. Markers stay hidden until you tap, so the map reads as a floor plan rather than a field of pins.

It works the other way round too. Mid-workout, the Map button on an exercise opens the floor plan with that machine already highlighted.

## The exercise library

Under Workouts, Exercise Library is every exercise the app knows about. Search by name, or narrow it down by the muscle it works using the row of buttons for each body part.

Two filters are worth knowing. Favourites shows only the ones you have hearted. At my gym narrows the list to exercises you can actually do with the kit on your floor.

Notice that the app does not hide the rest. An exercise your gym does not have the kit for still appears, marked Not at your gym, because you might be travelling, training somewhere else this week, or building a session for later. A note is more useful than a gap.

## What an exercise page tells you

Open one and you get a demonstration video, filmed on the kit rather than animated, plus the muscles it works and how much - a primary muscle and the others that assist. If your gym has filmed its own version on its own machine, that is the clip you see.

## What your gym actually has

Under My Gym, Equipment is your gym's own inventory rather than the whole catalogue, listed by brand. If you have trained somewhere that runs Hammer Strength and you want to know whether the bench press here is the same machine, this is the screen that answers it.

Tap anything for its detail page, the same one the map opens.
